천안시, 외국인 주민 15명 ‘시정 홍보단’ 출범…“다국어 소통 강화로 글로벌 도시 도약”

[Cheonan = Reporter Kim Do-young] Cheonan City has officially launched a "Foreign Resident Municipal Publicity Group” to strengthen communication with foreign residents and advance toward becoming a global city.

The city announced on the 17th that it recently held an appointment ceremony in the city hall conference room and commissioned 15 foreign residents from nine countries, including Vietnam, China, and Mongolia, as members of the publicity group. A key feature of this group is that it is composed of foreign residents with a strong willingness to participate in the local community, ensuring balanced representation across nationalities.

According to Cheonan City, as of the end of March this year, the number of foreign residents in the area is approximately 40,000, accounting for 5.8% of the total population. In response, the city plans to foster an environment where foreign residents can actively participate as members of the community rather than simply being classified as a resident population.

The publicity group will serve for the next two years. Its members will translate and deliver key city policies and daily life information into their respective native languages. They will also function as a communication channel between the city and foreign residents by collecting various difficulties and suggestions experienced in the field and conveying them to the city government.

Through this initiative, the city expects to reduce information gaps caused by language barriers, improve foreign residents’ access to policies, and promote social integration within the local community.

[천안=김도영 기자] 천안시가 외국인 주민과의 소통을 강화하고 글로벌 도시로의 도약을 위해 ‘외국인 주민 시정 홍보단’을 공식 출범시켰다.시는 최근 시청 중회의실에서 위촉식을 열고 베트남, 중국, 몽골 등 9개국 출신 외국인 주민 15명을 홍보단원으로 위촉했다고 17일 밝혔다. 이번 홍보단은 지역사회 참여 의지가 높은 외국인 주민들로 구성돼 국가별 대표성을 확보한 것이 특징이다.

천안시에 따르면 올해 3월 말 기준 지역 내 외국인 주민 수는 약 4만 명으로, 전체 인구의 5.8%를 차지하고 있다. 이에 따라 시는 이들이 단순한 거주 인구를 넘어 지역 사회의 구성원으로 적극 참여할 수 있는 환경 조성에 나선다는 방침이다.홍보단은 앞으로 2년간 활동하며 천안시의 주요 정책과 생활 정보를 각자의 모국어로 번역해 전달하는 역할을 맡는다. 또한 외국인 주민들이 현장에서 겪는 다양한 불편 사항과 건의 의견을 수렴해 시에 전달하는 등 행정과 외국인 주민 사이의 소통 창구 역할도 수행하게 된다.

시는 홍보단 운영을 통해 언어 장벽으로 인한 정보 격차를 줄이고, 외국인 주민의 정책 접근성을 높이는 동시에 지역사회 통합에도 긍정적인 효과가 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.김석필 천안시장 권한대행은 "홍보단 활동이 외국인 주민의 삶에 실질적인 도움이 되고, 천안이 진정한 글로벌 도시로 성장하는 기반이 되길 바란다”며 "외국인 주민이 보다 살기 좋은 환경을 만들기 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
